Long road trips are often exciting, as you will most likely be driving through places you have never been before; however, they can also be somewhat dangerous if you are not prepared. Preparation includes not only knowing where you are going and how to get there, but also being aware of the best places to stop overnight.

I go about planning my road trips in a way that leaves lots of room for happenstance: those nice little surprises and spectacular vistas that sneak up on you and leave you pleasantly awestruck. Whether you're craving beauty, excitement or activities for you and the kids, planning it all out is an exciting part of the journey.

Identify the trip's purpose. If you know the reason that you are taking this trip that will tell you how much planning you have to do. If you just like o "take of on the road", you probably just need a full tank of gas, but if you say "I like to take road trip from Miami to Los Angeles, and I like to see as much as I can on the way", you will need some planning to make the road trip easier.

Make certain you have accommodations booked before you leave. The last thing you want is to be stuck in a situation where you do not have a place to sleep overnight. Phone well in advance and make bookings along the route you are going to travel. Complete a full bike inspection to safeguard against mechanical problems.
